Davenport Chiropractors & How Tune Ups Help Long Term Health

Chiropractors in Davenport Regular Maintenance

How often do you get an oil change in your car? Most people would say about every 3,000 miles or every three months. In reality it is probably closer to 5,000 miles or every four months. You do this because it helps your car to run better and prevents potentially damaging problems. So, every three to four months, you spend $35 to $50 on an oil change that lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. This seems like a minimal investment to keep your car running smoothly and avoid potential problems.  In between oil changes, you also keep your tires properly inflated, get the washer fluid filled, and do a car wash a few times. These little things keep your car operating at its best.

The sad thing is that you probably do not make the same investment in your own body. The best way I can describe Chiropractic care is like getting a tune up every couple of months to make sure everything is running right and to prevent any major issues from coming up. You are going to spend between $35 to $50 and it will last between 20 and 30 minutes. I give all of my patients stretches and exercises to do at home to maximize the effects of the adjustment and to prevent the problem from re-occurring between visits. These minimal investments in your own body can pay dividends for years to come.

With that being said, nobody can prevent the falls, car accidents, and other injuries that occur from time to time. This is typically when you might have to see a Chiropractor for a few weeks in a row. We can help to minimize the damaging effects of the injury, so that you can recover faster, with less pain, and fewer lingering problems. Chiropractors can assess little abnormal movements that may not be picked up by other medical doctors. If you start moving abnormally, it can cause muscular imbalances in other areas of your body. This can lead to a weakness that increases the possibility of injury in another area that had nothing to do with the original problem.

The same thing can happen in every day work situations. Sitting all day often leads to hunching shoulders and tight neck and shoulder musculature. This can cause headaches, shoulder pain, and upper back pain. This also leads to flexing of the lumbar spine (lower back) which is normally slightly extended. Sitting is a major cause of lower back injuries. We can often make changes to the way you sit and work, add exercises, and add stretches throughout the day to help limit this effect. A minor tune up by your favorite Davenport Chiropractor can help to make sure your spine (and nervous system) is in proper alignment.

I have heard many people say that once you start going to a Chiropractor, that you have to continue going forever. Many of my patients tell me that now they know when their body is out of alignment and needs to be adjusted. They know when they are not functioning at their best. If you listen to your body, you will know when you need to see a Chiropractor.

If you are willing to make an investment in your car every few months, please care enough about yourself and your family to make the same investment in yourself. Whether you are injured, healthy, young, old, pregnant, or just born, we are here to help you on your road to health.
